Technology & Combat Characteristics

The MSM-03C, or "Hygogg", was a development of the MSM-03 Gogg. Although the early Gogg was one of the first true amphibious mobile suits, it was handicapped by several problems which included being under-powered, limited armament and poor performance on land. Zimmad started looking at ways to address the early Gogg's shortcomings.

This resulted in the MSM-03C model, first introduced shortly after Operation Odessa. This new machine introduced a number of structural changes in order to accommodate a more powerful generator. Its streamlined shape allowed for greater mobility both on land and in water and used large twin hydrojet thrusters for water propulsion. As it used a redesigned frame, the Hy-Gogg was significantly lighter than its predecessor, however, increasing its performance in mobile suit combat while maintaining proper balance that surpassed its counterpart, the MSM-07E Z'Gok-E. Additionally, production costs were reduced due to the implementation of standardized parts, including the cockpit, derived from the United Maintenance Plan, and advantageous for servicing.

While the Hy-Gogg was armed with a pair of machine cannons and torpedo launchers for a variety of combat roles, its primary weapons were mega particle cannons incorporated into the Hygogg's hands, allowing for a wide area of attack. The Hygogg could be equipped with an optional "hand missile unit" on each arm unit, which featured panels designed to blow-away when the missiles are launched.

History

Only very limited numbers of the MSM-03C variant were built. In December UC 0079, Zeon's Cyclops Team special forces was operating three units of this type. These units were used to attack an Earth Federation Antarctic base in an attempt to destroy a prototype mobile suit. The mission failed as the prototype was launched into space before any of the Zeon mobile suits could destroy it.

1/144 HGUC MSM-03C Hygogg Model Kit Reviews

The 1/144 Hy-gogg from the 0080 series "A War in the Pocket" is a beautifully detailed High Grade model with a nice joint system that allows it's snake like arms to bend accurately. The model is molded in color, has movable claws and even comes with parts for underwater mode.

It has various gimmicks adapted to allow for articulation in the long arms and claws, and comes with several accessories to enhance the posing options. No paint or glue is required to complete this kit, but some shading could bring this from good to amazing!

For a dated HG this is still pretty good. Things I like about this model kit are that the blue armor links on the flexible arms are separate pieces from the dark colored parts which makes painting ALOT easier. All of the "fingers" and "Toes" are articulated as well as each link in his flexible arms. The shoulder armor, waist, hips, and knees all move as well. My main problem is its old school bandia which means the parts a little more brittle then what you would see now. Just be careful and dont break anything when removing gating material.

The Hy-Gogg is one of my biggest nostalgia from being a kid and seeing the 0080 commercials, this model truly brings that nostalgia back from those good times and gives me some fun just posting the hy-gogg in great ways and even things you're not supposed to do with it, the snap together is nice and easy, but the build is complex and great quality for a high grade, i agree the model does need a good amount of lining, but if you want you can customize the hy-gogg. truly something good to have and a great addition to a collection or a starter for new gunplay builders like myself. I would immediately buy a master grade if one is ever made for this kit.

The hygogg is an interesting step in the HGUC line. From what I can gather it was the first one they made that really drifted from the humanoid structure. It could have been a nightmare but they did a great job of articulating the arms and legs and allowing you all the different ways to apply the torpedos on the arms. The waist swivels on a 360 spin but doesn't bend, which may have been slightly different in a newer version but it's no issue here.

There are individual joints for each arm section, the rudders can open or close to reflect underwater travel and the arms can be replaced to seem retracted into the torso. it has a pink plastic mono eye that doesn't move and a bright orange jet-pack. Now even though I have little no substantial complaints about the build or articulation DO know that the model needs a decent deal of lining to look great so be sure to buy two gundam markers, both red and blue. That being said it does have a few red stickers and doesn't look awful without the extra work, but it really pops with some lining and painting. Enjoy!

I think the Hygogg is one of my favorite designs in the Gundam universe, so it's something of a shame it only really appears for a brief bit in War in the Pocket.

The kit has tons of style and it all comes together really nicely. It has options for having the arms out, or tucked in for "cruising mode." They both look great, and the suit has a lot of menace to it, even without any lining or decal work. There's a good deal of flexibility in the arms, even if they only move back, and its low stature means its actually weighted nicely. I also thought having the eye being a piece of color plastic was really nice, since it was one less sticker I had to fuss with.

I had a few issues with the model, mostly the eye. I don't mind it not moving, since HGUC kits with moving eyes are kind've a pain, but the sticker they put with it to highlight the eye is pretty terrible. It doesn't really fit in the place its supposed to and leaves gaps of blue. I found myself tearing the sticker off and painting the area black instead and I think it looks much better.

I was kind of bummed about the arms as well, since they only bend backwards and their twistability is kind of weird. It doesn't make the kit bad by any means, but it does seem to limit your poses with the beast. Overall, I really liked the kit, mostly because it captures the look of one of the less humanoid mobile suits. It's refreshing to see something so different on my shelf.
