Technology & Combat Characteristics

Like many mobile suits designed around the time of the Gryps Conflict, the Gaza-C line of mobile suits from Neo Zeon were built around the concept of a versatile transforming frame. However, while the Gaza-C was approved and put into mass production there were minor flaws in the design, and the manufacturing resources of the Axis asteroid was limited, so many of the Gaza-C's parts were recycled from older Gaza-A and Gaza-B construction mobile suits. Despite this, the Gaza-C was a successful design that provided an excellent balance of speed, maneuverability, and firepower for little cost and was the first real mass produced version of the Gaza-series.

However, one major problem with the Gaza-C is that due to its flimsy construction, the mobile suit would literally fall apart after using its transformation systems only a few times; the average lifespan of a Gaza-C would be three combat missions. This flaw was remedied in later Gaza models.

Armaments

  • Knuckle Buster - With a power output at 6.7 MW, this powerful beam cannon is linked to a large sensor on the right side chest of the Gaza-C, making it very accurate. It mounts onto the backpack when in mobile suit and mobile armor mode, but is hand-carried when in mobile suit mode.

  • Beam Saber - The beam saber is the standard melee armament for the AMX-003 Gaza-C. The beam saber is a small cylindrical device held in the mobile suit's hands when operated and is powered by an energy capacitor that is recharged from special racks. The beam saber emits a blade of plasma contained by an I-field and is capable of cutting through any metal alloy. The only way to block a beam saber is to counter with another beam saber or to use armor that has been treated with an anti-beam coating. When not in use the Gaza-C's beam sabers are stored in recharge racks in the shoulder binders.

  • Beam Gun - Pair of small fire-linked beam guns are fixed on the Gaza-C backpack. Used mainly in mobile armor mode, these beam guns can't change their firing angle. Possess a power rating of 2.3 MW each.

History

Upon Neo Zeon's revival a transformable mobile suit was needed to stand against the Titans and the AEUG. Using mostly spare parts the Gaza-C was mass produced, giving the Zeonic forces a basic unit, which in large numbers (and due to Zeon's veteran pilots) was quite dangerous.

When the Axis asteroid entered the Earth Sphere the Neo Zeon forces brought over 100 of these mobile suits which were deployed in battle for Neo Zeon's interests. It was the only transformable mobile suit mass-produced in such large numbers.

The AMX-003 Gaza-C would serve as the primary front-line combat mobile suit for the Axis forces during the Gryps Conflict, and during the early part First Neo Zeon War. However, as the resources available to Neo Zeon's military grew, production of the Gaza-C ceased due to deficiencies in the frame's design. Yet the design of the Gaza-C was popular enough that it served as the basis for a number of mobile suits Neo Zeon would field during the First Neo Zeon War, such as its direct descendent, the AMX-006 Gaza-D. It estimated that nearly 250 Gaza-C units were produced.

Although production of the Gaza-C would end in the year UC 0088, before the end of the First Neo Zeon War, a number of these mobile suits would survive to the year UC 0096. These surviving Gaza-C units would be operated by "The Sleeves". Due to the fact that The Sleeves lacked the resources to compete with the Earth Federation's production capabilities, they deployed any mobile suit they could get a hold of, even outdated machines as far back as the the One Year War. These Gaza-C units would be repainted into a new color scheme and given the distinctive markings featured on many of the mobile suits used by The Sleeves. Some Gaza-C units were deployed by The Sleeves during the Federation's attack on Palau, where they performed poorly against the Earth Federation's more modern and advanced mobile suits.

HGUC AMX-003 Gaza-C Haman Karn Custom Scale Model Kit Review

Hamarn's custom unit the Gaza C is a stunning addition to the HGUC lineup. The Gaza C features polycap joints which allow you to pose it in a number of dynamic stances the mobile suit even transforms into Mobile Armor mode.

The suit features a gimmick that allows it to change into a strange bipedal cannon or remain in mobile suit form. It comes with a beam rifle and beam sabers, so you can recreate any pose from the anime that you want. The kit is of course pre-colored and snap-together, so no paint or glue is required to complete.

Review by Clem Master Janitor

Introduction

Here we have the custom Gaza C of Haman Karn. Being my favorite Gundam character, I thought it a good idea to pick it up. Nothing other than the color makes this different from the regular Gaza C kit. The Gaza kits have ‘gummy’ parts for the wires rather than hard plastic, to allow for better posing. They are also surprisingly easy to get in and keep in.

Assembly

No glue, no paint, no problem. Putting the vent in the chest piece was the hardest thing on the kit. Instructions are clear and the only somewhat difficult part was telling what slot the neck joint fits into the Gaza’s massive backpack.

Head

This is hard to write because the ‘head’ is only 3 pieces. The neck joint which allows it to fold into the backpack is pretty simple and makes the transformation look good. The eye is a clear green piece and the neck can only move a few degrees forward or back but I don’t see any reason to complain about that.

Torso

The Gaza’s torso is complicated and is no doubt the heart of the model. On the right side, you have another clear green piece, presumably the gun’s sight as well as the gun itself. The gun is held on by a gummy wire and an elbow joint which fits in the underside of the chest. You can also remove the gun and fit it into the side of the backpack for the Gaza’s transformation mode.

Arms

The Gaza’s arms could be the weak point of the kit. Instead of a ball joint like most HGUCs, you get 2 separate joints, one that moves the triceps to and from the body and the shoulder which is free to rotate on the chest. More often than not, the chest piece will want to rotate with the arm. Attached to the forearms are the Gaza’s shields. They can rotate a full 360 to match the transformed mode. In the shields, you can fit the beam saber handles as well. The hands have the standard cupped version to hold beam sabers and ones to plug the arms while it is transformed. The right hand has an opened version that you can set the gun in for posing purposes.

Legs

The legs of our Gaza are pretty well made. They rotate at the thigh to allow the legs to curl forward during transformation. The knees have 2 joints allowing you to get close to 110 degrees. The feet can bend in 2 spots, giving you some pretty believable claws and easy balance.

Final Thoughts

This is the perfect kit for UC and Haman Karn fanboys. It should have come with a stand so your chicken mode isn’t useless. Other than that the kit is somewhat expensive though you have a pretty cool piece for your shelf.
