Technology & Combat Characteristics

The second mobile suit built by Paptimus Scirocco aboard the Jupitris during the Gryps Conflict, the Palace Athene was a mobile suit built for offense. Though normally armed with four beam cannons in its torso and claws on its feet, it could also be outfitted with a heavy 2-barrel beam rifle, eight battleship-grade long-range missiles, and a shield mounting several small missile launchers. Although equipping the extra equipment gave the Palace Athene the firepower equivalent of a large mobile armor or space battleship, its bulk and size did cause it to suffer a lack of good speed and maneuverability.

Armaments

  • Mega Beam Gun/Beam Saber

  • Scattering Beam Gun

  • Movable Shield

  • 8 x Large Missile

  • 2-barrel Beam Gun

  • Grenade Launcher

  • Shield

  • 8 x Small Missile Launcher

History

Just like many of Scirocco's mobile suits, only one Palace Athene was built, and it was assigned to former AEUG pilot-turned-Scirocco supporter Reccoa Londe, who piloted it from the Battle of the Gate of Zedan to the unit's destruction at the Battle of Gryps.

HGUC PMX-001 Palace Athene Scale Model Kit Reviews

The powerful mobile armor built by Paptimus Sciroco is a nice addition to the HGUC lineup of kits from Zeta Gundam. The Palace Athene once assembled comes in full color and comes with the Mega Beam Gun that can be mounted on teh forearm, a shield as well as the scattering beam gun mounted on the mobile armor's shoulders and back.

While it looks complex, the kit is molded all in color and features snap assembly, so you needn't worry; stickers are included for detail, and polycaps assist with the ease of building and posing. This kit features all the bells and whistles you see in the anime and will allow for some great action poses.

This was my second gundam to build and I'd say its my favorite so far. I didn't really have any problems building this gundam.

Introduction

The PMX-001 Palace Athene is a custom machine by Scirocco, used by Reccoa Londe near the end of the Gryps War. The Palace Athene boasts size, balance and one hell of an arsenal. This bold looking mobile suit makes for an interesting model.

Assembly

Incredibly straightforward and the pieces fit together really nicely. There are a large number of decals which can get tedious but otherwise, there are no problems here.

Head

Peaking with its massive fin, the Athene’s head looks as badass as the show. You have a sensor decal with a black piece inside on a socket joint. There are also 2 gummy pieces as the pipes between the head and torso.

Torso

The torso is complicated but detailed. The chest pieces that house the gummy pipes are somewhat difficult to get in right but once you’re done, you have a nice solid torso. The shoulder joints allow the arms to roll back and forward and the hips get about a 90 degree swivel area. Mounted on the back is the massive backpack with thrusters at the top and space for 8 large missiles. The missiles can be pivoted around but often clash with the large shoulders of the Athene.

Arms

True to the rest of the model, the arms of the Athene are very nice looking, including more gummy pipes. The forearms have slots to mount the beam cannon or the shield. Now, the big problem with the arms is that the flamboyant shoulders like to knock into your missile setup, taking away some posing ability. You’re given a closed fist for each hand and a beam saber compatible right hand. All things considered, this is another hard point of the model.

Legs

Not falling behind slightly are the towering legs of the Palace Athene. Though there are a lot of decals (Being the yellow stripes), the legs look very nice and detailed. The joints are standard but the massive tail in back makes balancing this thing rather easy. Even the ankle and toe have free range of movement so enjoy coming up with bad ass poses.

Armaments

Aside from the 8 large missiles, the Athene has 2 beam sabers, a shield and dual beam cannon. The sabers come with clear yellow blades which can be removed. The saber handles fit in little slots in the shield. Good stuff right here.

Final Thoughts

This kit is amazing. Buy it if you like the mobile suit or just want an evil looking enemy for your Mark 2. This kit might be a bit more expensive than your average HGUC but it is well worth it.

Review by 私のガンプラ

This is a very special kit indeed. The look of this Gundam is very special and different from others. That’s the reason why I bought it. Overall, this kit is really well made and I had no regret at all for getting this kit. There are some yellow-orange stripes all around the body. You may choose to paint them yourself or use the sticker given. I’m using the sticker myself since they look ok to me. The part leg and ankle should be light yellow colour. Sticker is provided but it looks ugly to me, so I paint this part up myself. Same goes to the pink orb on the shoulder. I paint them myself rather then using the sticker provided. You should paint the inner part of the shoulder in black or dark gray too. It’ll look a lot nicer.

No stand is provided. But you may use the HGUC stand from other kit to pose this Gundam. The assembling process of this kit is simple. But beware; please take extra care when handling the soft rubber-liked part. It will easily break if you are too hard on it. And also be careful when assembling the “antenna” on its head. You don’t want to break this part, and I’m sure of it. To sum it up, a very nice & special kit from the HGUC series.
