Technology & Combat Characteristics

Capable of seperating in to the Bawoo Attacker (upper torso) and autonomous Bawoo Nutter (lower torso) units. The distinctive kanji characters on the left thigh armor of Glemy Toto's orange-colored prototype unit reads "龍" on the upper portion and "飛" on the lower portion. Together, its pronounced "Lóngfēi", meaning "Dragon Fly" (not to be confused with "Dragonfly").

The basic armaments of the Bawoo were four fixed grenade launcher guns equipped on the forearms and two beam sabers. The extendable rear wing binders are equipped with three missiles each. The optional beam assault rifle is capable of switching to a rapid-fire mode. In addition, the shield is equipped with five mega particle guns.

Armaments

  • Beam Saber

  • 4-tube Grenade Launcher

  • AMM-06H heavy missle

  • Beam Rifle

  • Shield

  • Mega Particle Gun

Special Equipment & Features

  • Optional Backpack

  • External propellant tanks - The Bawoo can be equipped with a pair of external propellant tanks to extend its operating time.

  • Transformation/Docking Systems

  • Bawoo Attacker - The torso with the cockpit fighter is dubbed the "Bawoo Attacker". The unit achieves this configuration by tilting the head component forward, moving the arms to the bottom of the fuselage and extending the flexible wings and the wing backpack binders. It is armed with a beam rifle, missiles and grenade launchers, boasting high offensive power. Also, with the optional shield attached to the underside of the fuselage, it could improve the aerodynamics of the aircraft.

  • Bawoo Nutter - The remote-controlled lower torso is called the "Bawoo Nutter". The Bawoo Nutter is controlled wirelessly by Minvosky transmission, allowing it to function as an independant combat drone. With its legs rotated to 90 degrees, the legs could be used as lumbar wings. The Bawoo Nutter had a maximum payload of 1,800 kg, and could equip a warhead and reach a range of 640km, thereby acting as a giant missile.

History

The Bawoo was developed to examine new possibilities for the TMS (transformable mobile suit). Although Axis had already introduced the Gaza series into combat, it had fallen behind in developing machines that could resist the transformable mobile suits of the Federation Forces, AEUG, and Titans. In U.C. 0088, which could be considered the golden age of the transformable mobile suit, the transformable mobile suits of each side were demonstrating their full effectiveness. The Axis engineers, feeling they couldn't afford to fall behind in mobile suit development, eagerly attacked the matter of transformable mobile suits as well.

Meanwhile, thanks to political strategems, many machines and technologies were obtained from the Federation Forces and the Titans. In particular, it is said that a considerable number of staff who "participated in" or "returned to" Neo Zeon came from AE (Anaheim Electronics) and the AEUG, where many elements approved of Axis's return to the Earth Sphere and the revival of Zeon. In fact, the Bawoo itself could even be called a dead copy of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, or possibly another machine from the Zeta Project, that was created as a result of these kinds of situations.

Variants

  • Mass-Production Bawoo (Axis) - Identical to Glemy's prototype save for the different color scheme. Some theorize that the mass-produced versions cannot transform , however.

  • Mass-Production Bawoo (Glemy Faction) - Used during the First Neo Zeon Movement by Glemy's army revolting against Haman Karn, its basic features are not changed from the Bawoo, so it still retains adaptability. [Source: wikia & MAHQ]

1/144 HGUC AMX-107 Bawoo Model Kit Review

The AMX-107 Bawoo makes its appearance in 1/144 scale in the HGUC line. This kit transforms from flight to fight mode just like it does in Zeta Gundam. Accessories include a beam saber and rifle as well as interchangeable hand parts. Perhaps the most dangerous weapon on this thing is its pointy head though. Below is a detailed review from Clem-Master-Janitor.

Introduction

Time for another HGUC review, this time featuring the Bawoo. A very interesting love child of the Zeta Gundam and Gyan, how will this early HGUC transformable model kit hold up years after its release?

Head

The head of the Bawoo is simple but detailed. It has a sticker to cover the ABS plastic part that makes up the power cable and monoeye. It would be simple to drill out to put in a colored piece of translucent plastic for added detail, but just painting on an eye works nicely. The ABS substitutes for the need of a polycap piece in the head . With the other kits I've put together capable of transformation (HGUC), this is pretty common. Moves smoothly but is not capable of looking up.

Arms

Good movement from the arms and lots of details, from the grenade launchers to the power cables all the way up to the shoulder armor. I'm guessing that the beam sabers are stored in the wrists as they appear to be molded there (not detachable). The shield attaches to the forearm via a slot in the grenade launcher piece. It releases easier than the piece in the upper body for transformation but still holds strong. Three hands are included (left and right fists, right hand beam rifle holder). There is a lot of play in the rifle but it does hold in the hand. Beam sabers tend to fall out easily, which is common place in all the earlier HGUC kits. You will have to paint for accuracy in the elbows as there are no individual elbow covers like most HGUC kits use (think the Hyaku Shiki, it uses the same model concept). Unlike the Shiki, the Bawoo doesn't have as defined of an area for the elbows so you have to take a stab in the dark when guessing where to stop painting.

Torso

Detailed and the home of the majority of the transformation pieces for the Attacker and the lynch pin to connect the Nutter to the upper body. All the parts integrate very nicely together, allowing the smooth kick out of the Nutter while the head slips into the chest and the downward motion of the shoulders folding in to place the arms underneath the main body of the Attacker. In the area behind the Attacker's nose piece, a slot can be found to insert the beam rifle. Another slot in the wing binders/rear fuel storage holds the shield during transformation. It grabs the shield too well and won't release easily.

A few complaints, though minor, are the wing binders. They rest upon two ball socket polycaps (normally used in the hips) giving them a great amount of freedom in movement. Unfortunately, it's hard to align them properly during Attacker mode. I can get them close, but they always look off during closer scrutiny. The second complaint is widespread in this kit, voids in the plastic. I'm not sure why Bandai does this, but they leave voids in the plastic for either cost cutting or weight adjustment. Not too big of a deal, but it can be seen in the shoulder joints, the wrist grenade launcher storage, the wing binders, and the feet. The feet suffer the most from this problem, though.

Legs

The lower body is the Nutter part of the kit. Legs sit nicely when transformed with a slight bend in the knees that's intentional. I still tend to try and straighten it out of habit. An exposed polycap holding the small wings in the skirt armor detracts slightly from the kit. You can paint it gray or black, if you want, or paint it orange to integrate the pieces. Transforming the Nutter is simple and requires some very easy twists of the hips and folding of the feet to achieve the final form. If the Nutter possesses any weapons, I haven't found them yet, besides Nutter puns.

Biggest problem is the feet. They are hollowed out for whatever reason. In fact, they're almost too light and fold in too easily sometimes. This destabilizes the kit since the wing binders are so heavily weighted. I filled in the heel with no negative affects on Nutter transformation. The feet don't like to move a lot in the ankles compared to many HGUC kits, so you're kind of stuck on posing due to these issues.

Weapons and Accessories

A beam rifle, beam saber, and shield are included. The five barrels of the mega-particle guns in the shield aren't too defined on the side guns. It can make detailing the bits difficult, but not impossible. Saber requires paint since it‘s only one solid color, but I'd opt for the rifle in displays. The rifle needs to have a folding grip. When in Attacker mode, the grip hangs down, making the Attacker unstable and always rocking side to side. Missiles are included for the wings that can be turned for display during Attacker mode.

Conclusion

Odds are you won't fall in love with displaying the Bawoo in its Attacker and Nutter forms. Neither has a great way to be displayed. For the most part, it's a gimmick that works very nicely but is not functional. If Bandai would have released stands specific to this kit (think HGUC's Asshimar or Gaplant), then it could have been done. Aftermarket stands can't function with this kit, either, unless you want to drill out the bottom and insert a screw. This is due to the polycaps that replace the hip ball joints for allowing transformation being too tight against the pelvic region and a very large thruster being placed dead in the center get in the way. The kit requires lots of little paint details to really make it 'pop,' but you'll be glad if you put the time in to add these things.

Overall, it's a solid kit with neat features and a rather humorously named lower half (don't say you haven't made any Nutter jokes). At a cheap price, it's worth the time and effort. You could go with the Mass Production version colors if orange turns you off, but you'll end up with the same kit.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

As a descendant of the Zaku series of mobile suits the Zaku III was designed to be highly versatile, being able to perform just about any mission role. Though a part of the Zaku series the Zaku III is a big step up from the venerable MS-06 Zaku II, possessing over twice the power output, three times the sensor range, and four times the thruster acceleration, not to mention the various new beam weapons it wielded. Though not the highest performing mobile suit designed by Neo Zeon the Zaku III could still outperform most Federation fielded mobile suits.

Armaments

  • Mouth Beam Gun - Each Zaku III possesses a fixed beam gun mounted in the "mouth" of the mobile suit. Power rating of 1.6 MW

  • Beam Gun/Beam Saber - Mounted on recharge racks on the front skirt armor and hand operated in use, these weapons possess two modes, a close combat beam saber mode and a long range beam gun mode. Both modes have a power rating of 2.8 MW.

  • Beam Rifle

  • Heat Bayonet

  • Optional Shield/Weapons Rack - Unlike the previous Zaku II the Zaku III's shoulder mounted shield is optional equipment, though it was standard practice to install one. Also unlike the Zaku II the shield of the Zaku III doubled as a weapons rack to store extra armaments.

Special Equipment & Features

  • Optional Backpack - The Zaku III can be fitted with an optional backpack, providing additional thrusters and a pair of external propellant tanks to offset its additional consumption of fuel.

  • External Propellant Tanks - The optional backpack can equip a pair of external propellant tanks to increase its operating time.

History

As the First Neo Zeon War raged on, the Neo Zeon military continued its development of new and more powerful mobile suits. Two competing designs were produced as potential new mass-production front-line units: the AMX-011 Zaku III and the AMX-014 Doven Wolf. The intention of the Zaku III's design was that it would be a new descendant of the old Principality of Zeon's venerable (and highly versatile) MS-05 Zaku and MS-06 Zaku II lines, acting as a symbol for the restoration of the ideals and power of Zeon that Axis Zeon wished to present. The Zaku III featured a modular construction design, enabling armor, the backpack, and other components to be changed out and customized depending on the mission. Despite its high performance and versatility, however, the Zaku III design lost out to the more powerful Doven-Wolf. As a result, the Zaku III saw only limited production.

One of these prototypes would be piloted by the captain of the Endra and mobile suit pilot Mashymre Cello who would outfit his Zaku III with various optional equipment which would lead the machine to be called the AMX-011S Zaku III Custom.

The Zaku III mobile suits served during the brief Zeon Civil War that occurred during the end of the First Neo Zeon War, being piloted by Haman Karn loyalists. The Zaku III proved itself quite successful against the seemingly more powerful mobile suits being used by Glemy Toto's forces, especially against its former rival, the AMX-014 Doven Wolf. 1/144 HGUC AMX-011 Zaku III Model Kit Review

This guy's got some big feet! This version of the Zaku looks much more modern and is reminiscent of a Gouf Flight Type (airbrush idea?). Its accessories include an unpainted beam saber and an upgraded Zaku machine gun that resembles that of the Rick-Dias. The kit is of course pre-colored and snap-together so no paint or glue is required. ~via GundamPlanet

Review by David John Shewsbury

This is the straight out of the box assembled 1/144 HGUC Zaku III Production Type (AMX-011) that saw limited production run around the year of U.C. 0088 - around Zeta Gundam anime time line.

First and foremost, it has to be noted that this model kit was produced way back in the year of 2000 - some 9 or 10 years ago - and therefore don't put too much expectation for it - especially in the articulation zone. This is a great looking Zaku and it remain to be so but that's about it.

This front skirt armor can be converted into "waist beam gun" - 2 units of them 1 on each side.
HGUC AMX-011 Zaku III Model Kit Review 1

Last but not least... beam saber... but I would say the one supplied on this model kit is quite ugly which I nicknamed it as "tooth pick" beam saber.... it is never the same as what you seen in the manual. This is it... basically all plain in dark gray color... I actually use red marker pen to give it some colors but it's not really helpful... still ugly...
HGUC AMX-011 Zaku III Model Kit Review The concept and idea of Zaku III with beam saber is nice but it is not presented accordingly in this model kit.

So that's about it... unless if you are a big fan of MS from Zeon/Neo_Zeon or unless if you love Zaku and many of it's variation, then you might consider this. Otherwise I think you can just skip this model.

At 1,500 Yen before shipment charges, you can choose other better 1/144 HGUC models or in fact you can just buy those 1/144 HG from Gundam 00 series which have excellent articulation overall compared to their previous siblings of the same scale. Again, this Zaku III is indeed a bulky cool looking MS and should be nice to see it with just standing pose.... something like the GFF stance... [Source: Shewsbury]

Value: 5/5
Quality: 3/5
Design: 3/5

Good size tons of panels to paint great for custom. Some cheap designs, arm joints way to loose they droop under the gun weight.

Review by Jordan

Value: 4/5
Quality: 4/5
Design: 4/5

When I ordered this model I didn't realize just how big it was. Even at 1/144 scale it's nearly as big as a 1/100 kit! Other 1/144 kits will be dwarfed by this thing.

The kit itself is pretty standard quality for the HG line, but it only comes with 2 weapons (a beam rifle and a beam saber) which is a little disappointing. The front skirt flaps have handles which flip out for the Zaku to hold on to.

This model has many large, flat surfaces so in my opinion it makes a great surface for a painting and panel lining introduction.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

As described in the Master Grade model manual and MS Encyclopedia, at the conclusion of the One Year War, the Federation opened the Gundam Development Project, aimed at creating mobile suits superior to those that Zeon had developed. The RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" was the second of five Gundam type mobile suit prototypes completed under this plan.

The RX-78GP01 was designed to be an adaptable mobile suit, able to operate under any condition on earth or in space; to that end its design is superficially similar to the other RX series Gundams. Unlike previous suits, this was one of the first to re-introduce the core fighter concept in its design, utilizing the recently developed FF-XII Core Fighter II as the cockpit.

One major innovation in the RX-78GP01's arsenal was the addition of a beam rifle that used removable energy capacitor clips called e-pacs. Previous beam rifle designs had the energy capacitor integrated into the rifle directly, resulting in the rifle becoming dead weight once the capacitor was depleted. With e-pacs, beam rifles can be used indefinitely as long as the pilot has a ready supply of replacement e-pacs. The RX-78GP01 has three e-pacs (one mounted on the rifle, two held in reserve on the shield) in its normal deployment configuration.

Though the GP01 is operable in both Earth and outer space, it needs to be configured for each environment before battle by swapping out the different Core Fighters. Otherwise, the GP01 will suffer from a lack of balance and will become near impossible to pilot.

Armaments

  • 60mm Vulcan Gun

A standard armament of the Earth Federation Forces' mobile suits is a pair of head mounted 60mm vulcan guns. These shell firing weapons have a high-rate of fire but have little power.

  • A.E.Blash·XBR-L-83d/Du.02 Beam Saber

2 beam sabers stored in the recharge recks of the backpack, fixed with the Core Fighter II, can be served as beam cannon in core fighter form and hand carried in-use.

  • BOWA XBR-M-82-05H Beam Rifle w/ mounted "Jitte"

The BOWA XBR-M-82A-05H beam rifle is the standard rifle for the Zephyranthes, power rated at 1.5MW, charged by replaceable e-caps. This is the first rifle applying a new technology "e-pacs", which is a replaceable container of mega-particles, able to let the pilot change the e-pac in the battle when running off ammunition of the beam rifle. The beam jitte attached to the Zephyranthes' beam rifle is a specialized beam saber designed to catch enemy beam sabers, allowing the pilot to quickly counter when there is no time to draw out his main beam saber.

  • HFW-GMG・MG79-90mm Machine Gun

The bullpup machine gun is a simple shell-firing machine gun that is based on older technologies, making it a weapon that can be cheaply produced and can be used by just about any mobile suit.

  • RX·VSh-023F/S-04712 Shield

As with most other mobile suits, the Zephyranthes carries a single physical shield for defense on its left arm. 2 e-pacs could be stored in the shield.

Special Equipment & Features

  • Core Block System

History

The RX-78GP01 was taken to Australia's Torrington Base for terrestrial testing, where it was commandeered by (and later assigned to) Federation ENS (later LTJG) Kou Uraki in his effort to retrieve the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis". The GP01 was heavily damaged while defending the Albion from an attack by Cima Garahau's marine corp., the Cima Fleet. The Gundam was recovered and sent to Anaheim Electronics to undergo a massive upgrade into the RX-78GP01-Fb Gundam "Zephyranthes" Full Burnern.

1/144 HGUC RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" Model Kit Review

After suffering heavy damage while en route to Von Braun, the RX-78GP01 was retooled into the RX-78GP01Fb Gundam Full Vernian Zephyranthes at the Anaheim Electronics facility on the Moon. The Full Vernian unit differs from the regular unit in a couple of ways. First, it has a set of Universal Boost Pods mounted behind the shoulder for better maneuverability. Secondly, the GP01's wings were removed and replaced with additional fuel units - the Universal Boost Pods replace the wings on the GP01. All of these modifications are reflected in the kit, which features all the posability and articulation you've come to expect. Accessories include shield, beam saber and beam rifle.

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The mass produced Mobile Suit of the Titan Forces, as well as the Earth Federation, the Hizack was a vast improvement over the Zaku II, used by the Principality of Zeon. Although the Titan Forces were assigned to wipe out the remaining bits of the Zeon forces, the Titan Hizack uses the same dark green color scheme (The Earth Forces had used a dark blue color for theirs). The Hizack is most often equipped with an out of date Zaku-series 120mm machine gun, as well as beam sabers or heat hawks. Hizacks are also sometimes equipped with a beam rifle, but its fairly low tolerance for beam weapons due to low energy output means it can only carry one at a time. Hizacks may also be equipped with missile pods instead of the hand thrown grenades of previous Zakus.

The Hizack also has been outfitted with titanium armor, backed by a ceramic composite, and it has a higher output generator than that of a Zaku. Hizacks are faster and more agile than its predecessors, and is easily controlled by its pilot.

Armaments

  • Heat Hawk

The Hizack was given a heat hawk similar to the one used by the famous MS-06 Zaku II. Although the Hizack would normally use a beam saber, it would have to use this if it was using a beam rifle due to it's low-output generator.

  • Beam Saber

The Hizack was given a beam saber as a close combat weapon. However, it couldn't use it in conjunction with its beam rifle due to having a low-output generator.

  • 3-tube Missile Pod

The Hizack has a pair of 3-tube missle pods mounted on each side of its hips. These would be used for long to mid-range bombardment.

  • BR-87A Beam Rifle

This beam rifle is the same as the one used by the Marasai.

  • Shield

  • 120mm Machine Gun

  • Shoulder Shield

History

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam

The RMS-106 Hizack is the first mass production mobile suit brought into the world by Anaheim Electronics. Its external appearance resembles that of the famous Zaku II series used by the old Principality of Zeon forces, and this design could only have been created by Anaheim, which has absorbed the Zeonic Company which was once Zeon's major mobile suit maker. Zeonic's development know-how is incorporated in the machine's inner construction as well as its outward appearance, giving it the same high operating reliability and ease of production as the Zaku II. Naturally, it can use beam weapons, and it's the first mass production machine to include a linear seat and panoramic monitor as standard equipment.

Hizack mobile suits served as one of the three main mobile suit models that filled the Earth Federation forces' ranks from 0084-0087, along side the RMS-179/RGM-79R GM II and RMS-117 Galbaldy β, and was the primary mainstay mobile suit of the Titans organization until the RMS-108 Marasai was introduced. As the main unit of the Titans the Hizack was used in many missions to eradicate anti-Federation dissidents. By 0087 the Hizack was primarily pitted against the AEUG and Karaba organizations, however time and again it was proven that the rebel pilots and machines were simply superior to the Hizack. In the same year, the Hizack began being phased out as the Titans were supplied with newer machine developed by the Earth Federation, Anaheim Electronics, and their own research teams.

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ

The Hizack was originally built and operated by the Earth Federation Forces, but the invasion of Earth by Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon War resulted in several of these units being captured by the enemy. Though it is likely that some Earth Federation combat units possessed Hizacks they were no longer one of the Federation's primary mobile suits, having been replaced by the RMS-179/RGM-79R GM II, RGM-86R GM III, and MSA-003 Nemo. It is likely that use of the Hizack ceased because of its association with the Titans.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack

By U.C. 0093, the Hizack had been almost completely phased out and, as such, was either being used for scrap or for private purposes. One of these variants was the RMS-116H Hobby Hizack, a civilian use variant.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

In U.C. 0096, during the events of Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, the outdated Hizack is still used by both "The Sleeves" and the Republic of Zeon.

1/144 HGUC RMS-106 Hi-Zack Model Kit Review

This Hi-Zack looks exactly like a Zaku variant, even though these suits are used by the Titans who fanatically hunt any remaining Zeon forces to extinction. This model kit comes with the prototype Zaku machinegun and a shield and is pre-colored and snap-together, so no paint or glue is required to complete it. This might look weird in the middle of an E.F.S.F suit collection, so you might as well throw categorization to the wind and put it with the Zakus!

While "hero" suits are always cool, there’s always something to be said for the "grunt" suits, especially for display/diorama purposes.

Head

Nice big mono-eye decal. The head nods up and down, along with rotating. If the Hizack ever mounted a blade antenna, this model does not include that option.

Torso

Tight construction with a twisting waist, which, if I understand the whole "movable frame" gimmick, was not supposed to be a feature on earlier mobile suits. Now for two points for caution, both on the backpack. The thrust vector panels on either side of the backpack’s thrusters have a tendency to pop out with careless handling, and the fin-mounted retro thrusters sticking out of the backpack are broken parts waiting to happen due to the thinness of their joint posts. Don’t drop it!

Arms

Here is a major departure from the anime design: the external power/coolant cables, meant to run from the torso to the elbow armor in the forearm, stop in a block at the bottom of the upper arm instead. The reason for this is obvious, however, if you’re a perfectionist, you may have a hard time forgiving Mr. Katoki for this. Fortunately, the Hizack is also available in the Master Grade format, where this issue is corrected.

Legs

Nice, sturdy High Grade legs. No issues here.

Weapons and Accessories

What accessories? This kit only comes with the custom Zaku machine gun and its "option" shield. Whoop-de-do! If you’re patient and lucky (as I seem to be in this case), you might still be able to pick up the original 1/144th Zeta Gundam weapons set, which includes the Hizack/Marasai beam rifle, the Hizack beam saber, heat hawk, and hip-mounted rocket pods, all of which (with the disappointing exception of the beam rifle) fit the HGUC kit. Perhaps, one day, an HGUC weapon set will be made available...

Conclusion

Despite my usual inclinations, I really like this tight little kit. It’s not very articulated, but the poses it can make are quite good. Its Katoki proportions are also typically pleasing. The main drawback is its limited weapons loadout, though another version of this suit exists... [Notice: Review by Jameson Leaser]
